Ceramides & Centella: Repairing Damaged Skin
When skin is genuinely damaged — windburnt, stripped, or healing — it needs more than moisturiser. Here's how ceramides and Centella rebuild it.
Most of the time, skin just needs hydration. But sometimes it's genuinely damaged — windburnt raw, stripped by a harsh peel, or torn deep enough to leave marks. A light lotion won't cut it there. This is when you reach for ceramides and Centella, the two ingredients built for real repair.
What ceramides do
Your skin's barrier works like a brick wall — cells held together by a lipid 'mortar', and ceramides are a big part of that mortar. When the barrier is broken, that mortar is missing and moisture pours out while irritants pour in. Our ceramide blend (NP, AP and EOP in a specific ratio) matches your skin's own lipids, so it slots straight into the gaps and seals the breach almost like a liquid bandage.
Where Centella comes in
Centella Asiatica — sometimes called tiger grass — is a calming, repair-supporting botanical that has been used on damaged skin for centuries. It soothes the redness and inflammation that come with a compromised barrier, and it supports the skin's own healing of deeper damage like dermal tearing and stretch marks. Together, the ceramides seal and the Centella calms and rebuilds.
How to use it
You'll find this pairing in Aegis (Woad) and our barrier-repair artifacts. Apply generously to the affected area — windburnt cheeks, hands, healing skin — as often as it needs it, and as an overnight layer to work while you sleep.
What to expect
Comfort comes first: within a day or two the tightness, stinging and redness ease as the barrier seals. Deeper repair — texture, marks, resilience — builds over the following weeks. If skin is broken or freshly treated, keep the rest of your routine simple and fragrance-free until it's healed.
